What I'm Making: OpArt Blankie

Untitled

I thought this blanket deserved its own post because I'm so happy with it, ahhh! It's the OpArt pattern from Knitty and I think it turned out so cool. I chose red and white since we already have a black and white rug in the nursery (which is finished-- post coming soon!) and I'm glad I did because like anything red and white, it reminds me of The White Stripes and takes me to a happy place.

Specs:
  • 2 size 7 circulars
  • size Small,  post-blocking
  • 4 skeins Knit Picks Swish DK in White and 2 skeins Cascade 220 in Ruby
I used Cascade 220 for the red because a lot of Ravelry users complained about red Swish DK bleeding into the white after washing. Cascade didn't seem to have that problem (and it didn't bleed when I blocked it) so we'll see.  I fully intended to make the Large size, but the last couple of stripes were so boring that I couldn't possibly go on. It took me a few stripes to get the hang of the pattern (that's why my increases aren't super neat), but overall it was a really easy (and slightly boring) knit. But the finished look is awesome!

Pregnancy Style: Thirty Weeks!

I should probably stop impulse buying dresses from Target. But.. hearts! And it came with a patent mustard belt! And it's stretchy so I can wear it now! As we were taking these photos a girl on a bicycle drove by and shouted that she had the same one, and I "yay!"-ed at her because that's always weirdly exciting to me. I love the uniqueness of vintage, but I'm all for being partners in dresses.

Also, I don't know why I bother to wave my hair anymore. It's the new thing that I like to do while my hair is in this awkward growing-out stage, but the humidity ruins it as soon as I step outside. I know I've complained about it before but it's so incredibly annoying. I would say that I can't wait for fall (which is true of course!) but it's not like I think the weather will turn to magic as soon as late September rolls around or anything. I mean, 95+ degree heat doesn't just disappear, unfortunately.

But anyway, pregnancy things! I'm in the home stretch now. His movements have evolved from random pointy kicks to rolling swooshes, and sometimes I can actually feel his little foot sticking out, which is the best/weirdest thing ever. He's head down as of my last prenatal visit, which explains why I'm always dealing with little feet getting stuck under my ribs on the right side. It seems that his turn-ons include chocolate cupcakes and Meg White's drumming.
