Nursery Progress, Part 3

Exploding TARDIS!

The curtains are finally up! I'm so happy with them. The fabric is Echino and were inspired by the nursery curtains from Girls Gone Child, even though I had no idea at first that her fabric was Echino too! I suppose it's just the perfect choice for a baby's room. I was pretty nervous about doing such a big project with tons of pricey fabric, but I used this tutorial for tabbed panels and it really couldn't have been easier.  The trickiest part was that I ended up having to add a  7" vertical strip and an extra half yard to the bottom of each curtain because my measurements were off and they were too short and narrow (jeez, self), but you can't really tell unless you're looking for it so it's no big deal. This room is soclose to being finished, ahh! I'll make a proper post with real (non-instagram) photos when everything is done. I need to make a few fitted crib sheets, get a changing pad cover and trash can/liners for cloth diapering, and organize the closet. As soon as I finish everything room-related I need to really crack down on baby knitting, because there are tons of things I want to make!

Beach Panic

Untitled

About a week and a half ago Jeremy and I decided to take the dogs to the beach, because dogs like that, right? WRONG. Wrong wrong wrong. It was a dramatic time. Even though we moved back here last summer, the dogs have never been to the ocean, so it was a completely new experience for them. Weetzie didn't mind so much; she didn't care for the water, but seemed to like hanging out on the sand. George was scared of everything. Poor guy. The texture of the sand, the noise, the water, it was all too much and we had to leave! It's okay though, not every dog is a beach-loving dog, and mine would much rather stick with napping most of the day and going on their somewhat-predictable walks.

The one thing they really liked was having a wide-open space to run on their leashes with Jeremy. That part was pretty adorable.

This photo really encapsulates the Ocean Fear that George was experiencing. I felt so bad for him, but at the same time the sand on his nose/wide-eyed-panic look is so endearingly hilarious.

Don't worry, we didn't stay long. I would never let George be that anxious for a long period of time. The beach has a nice sidewalk on the other side (safely tucked away from the horror of sand and water) so at least we can still take them to the beach without actually taking them to the beach.

The Kool-Aid Yarn Dyeing Experiment

I've wanted to try this ever since I saw lots of finished Kool-Aid projects on Ravelry and realized how random and vibrant the colors tend to be. I ended up using a few different packets of Kool-Aid (which I forgot to photograph, of course)-- lemon lime, tropical punch, grape, peach mango, orange, and Wilton blue gel food coloring (because the grocery store was out of blue Kool-Aid colors). I used the crock pot for the actual dyeing process, which made it super easy-- I could wander away and forget about it for a while without worrying about it burning or other scary things happening to it. It was fun and made the house smell like candy!

It was originally white Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool, and I wound it into 100 yard hanks because the plan is to turn them into wool soakers for the baby. I really like the purple/green/blue colorway the most, even though the green was a complete accident! First I used Wilton's "leaf green" food coloring since I was out of green Kool-Aid, but it turned out too light, so I changed the water and tried Peach Mango Kool-Aid on top of it. It turned out a really lovely pea/yellowish green, which goes great with the blue and purple. At first I kept overthinking which colors should go together, but it really is easier and more fun when you just start guessing and randomly mixing colors.

Twenty-Five Weeks & For The Birds

Well. I didn't realize it's been several weeks since my last belly/outfit photo! I've been completely hiding out from the heat-- the index has been in the 120s, and of course it doesn't help that pregnancy makes me more susceptible to hot weather-related badness. I've pretty much refused to leave the house before five or six unless it's absolutely necessary because I'm kind of terrified of trying to survive out there.

I can't believe I'm almost in my third trimester! What! I know I keep saying it, but time is seriously flying by. I've felt great except for a bout of hip/pelvic pain around twentyish weeks-- apparently it's completely normal, but it had gotten pretty bad and painful and I was limping and couldn't sleep at night and ugh. One session of acupuncture took care of it, though. I know I've never dove into my discovery and love of acupuncture on the blog, but really, just trust me-- if you've ever been interested in trying it and have some sort of chronic pain or problem I highly recommend giving it a shot. Feel free to email me if you want to talk about it! I tend to ramble about the awesomeness of acupuncture for way too long..

But anyway, I need to discuss this dress. How perfect is it? Birds! It doesn't have a stretchy waistband though, so I'm afraid I'll only be able to wear it for one or two more weeks, tops. I thought it had one and I was going to wait until I was further along to take a photo in it, because it seems like more of a late summer/early fall dress, but I'm really glad I did it now! It'll be nice to be able to wear it a ton next year. The adorable little bow flats are from BAIT and I won them in a giveaway from Rosapina Vintage, yay! It's so nice to have another option for black flats instead of my usual old H&M pair.
