Spring Outfits & David Sedaris

David Sedaris! April 21st, 2011, Albuquerque

Thursday night we went to see David Sedaris read at the University of New Mexico and (like I tweeted) it was hilarious and magical. I'm a huge fan of David and his sister Amy; I think they're brilliant and I kind of want to be both of them, somehow. Even though my birthday was on the 13th, this show was technically my present. I've read his books over and over but I love listening to him read the most, because his inflection is (obviously) so much better than what I come up with in my head.

He read the title story from Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk, read a bit from his diary, and tried out a new story about a trip to Beijing (it's awesome). He talked a little about random people he met along the book tour, like one girl who asked him to sign an ugly t-shirt which, as it turns out, was painted by a dolphin. (A dolphin with scoliosis.) Someone from the audience asked him what he would tell people about Albuquerque and he told us about not knowing how to work the computer in his hotel room and accidentally pulling up lots of porn. He had to call the hotel manager to fix it, who then called the IT guy, which meant he couldn't take a bath and had to iron instead. When the guy arrived he was like: "This isn't mine, I didn't do this. I'm a homosexual! I just want it to go away."

On the way to the car there was a girl in front of me with a sandy-blonde pixie cut, a pink cable-knit cardigan, khaki shorts and cowboy boots. I want to steal her look!

But anyway, about this outfit. The dress is from Spotted Moth (which has the fastest shipping ever, by the way. I ordered Friday evening and got it Monday morning. What!) and the espadrilles are vintage from Etsy. I have a thing for wedges right now, especially red ones. The bag is one of my favorite bags ever-- I got it a few years ago at an Alabama antique mall.

  1. I absolutely love your dress, and I like the nice pop the red shoes give your outfit.
I've only read Me Talk Pretty One Day, and it was very funny, so I've now made a mental note to read more of his work:)
You seem kind of familiar to me; I think we're friends on Goodreads! I have to go check now:) Happy Easter!
