& Old Lace

IMG_0633

So: my new dress! I've been meaning to do a proper photo set of this lovely piece of vintage for weeks. This is one of the dresses that my mom scored at a bag sale, which I can't even believe happened. I love it. I'm not sure how old it is-- possibly '50s or '60s, and the lace is so fragile. There are a few holes in the overlay and I had to be extra careful not to sit down too forcefully or snag it in the car door or on a cactus or something, and I was terrified that George or Weetzie would jump up and rip the lace even more. You can hardly tell from the photos but the lining is actually burgundy, which makes the whole thing look even more gothy.

The necklace is from an antique mall in Roswell (where I found that stack of vintage knitting books). The color is really just dinginess, but honestly I prefer it to a pearly-white necklace. I think it goes much better with this delicate old dress.

(And the whole outfit would have been tons better if I had combat boots, but alas, they're in storage at home!)

Also I dyed my hair! I've been having such drama about this whole brown hair situation; everything was so much easier when I dyed it black. I kept having problems with it fading to red at the roots, which looked terrible and not done and drove me nuts. I finally decided to just give reddish brown a try. So far I really like it-- it's dark again, which makes me feel comfortable, but it's all reddish and interesting in the light. So yay!

How beautiful! I want to play in that dress. I love the second picture. Your hair looks fabulous.

It's ridiculous that this is my first comment since I read every entry. I AM SCARED OF TRYING NEW THINGS, OKAY?

Em: Right?! I can't wait to visit that thrift shop when I go back to NC. I haven't been to a bag sale in ages and that seems to be the shop to visit.

Kate: Yay thanks!! I knew you'd like it. It's so fancypants, I'm determined to find an excuse to actually wear it somewhere. And yay hair switching! I love yours either way. <3

Kellie: Thanks! :D And yes exactly, I was so paranoid about it, I just knew i would hear a big ripping sound any minute, haha.
