Things I've been up to this week when not working and/or obsessing over upcoming traveling..
- I like to draw sort of silly, cartoony, big-eyed girls and recently came up with her:

I've been trying to draw more, like always, although I never seem to do it! I think she accidentally looks a bit like Mademoiselle Robot. With pink hair.
- Kater of All This Happiness just wrote a brilliant post on The Virgin Suicides and the cult of girls (us!) who cite it endlessly as a main summer inspiration. She posted gorgeous, dreamy photos and described perfectly the style and inspiration that oozes from that book and movie. The movie is lighthearted, the book not so much, and they're both a delicious way to spend a terribly hot and endless summer. It's not even just the aesthetics of the film that are so appealing, it's something about the entire mood of that story. And the soundtrack, obviously.
A couple of very Virgin Suicides-esque dresses from Modcloth (I really love the first one):

Peppermint Patty Dress and Macaroon Dress
- This week I'm reading Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld and Alan Moore's Lost Girls. I just finished a Doctor Who novel called Beautiful Chaos because I can't seem to stop reading them. What has everyone been reading so far this summer?

I've been having a serious problem with summer reading, for some stupid reason I pick up like 80 books and never finish one haha. I just cannot find anything really interesting yet, it saddens me sometimes how rarely I find that book that really gets to me and I become obsessed with, I guess it would devalue reading if you loved every single book you read, the amount of duds I try out is discouraging
ReplyDeleteI do something very similar, I keep making to-read piles that seem like a good idea at the time but then I'm never in the right mood to read them, so I end up putting them away and picking something else. I have to learn not to plan my reading because it never works!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about finding a book to become obsessed with. That hasn't happened to me in ages.
Right now I'm re-reading I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone. I think the intended reader is somewhat younger than me, but I still love it :)
ReplyDeleteI love your drawing, it's fun and mysterious all at once.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading Alice I Have Been, the story of Alice from Alice in Wonderland; a bit morbid but very good!
Thanks for the link to that Virgin Suicides article!
ReplyDeleteAlso, your drawing is so cute, I WISH I looked like this :) also pink hair Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm X
Diana: Thanks! :D And ugh I HAVE to join the Slow Reader's Book Club!! I meant to join from the beginning but didn't have the time, but I should definitely join before you pick the next book!
ReplyDeleteMademoiselle Robot: Yes, yay! I loved that post and thought it summed up my feelings way better than I could, haha. And thank you!! :)
Ohh I completely agree about the virgin suicides film/novel and the soundtrack! I love your modcloth pics - definitely good choices... also, you are making me realize I have a pile of books I need to attack and read this summer! All the reading I've done in college... well, once i graduate, I didn't want to read for awhile... and I think it is time to get back into it! I miss "joy" reading or whatever haha
