70s wool dress from Etsy, Target tights, Delias oxfords.
I bought this dress on Etsy last year, tried it on and felt frumpy, then promptly threw it in a pile to be hemmed. It stayed in my sewing room for a year (as things tend to do) until I tried it back on last week to pin it-- and loved it just the way it is! Funny how that works. I still feel a little like an old fashioned teacher of some sort--or maybe Marcia Brady?--but whatever, I love it. It's so lovely with its little buttons and snaps and harlequin print. And it's super warm too!

Grr!
Lately I've been thinking about how important it is to invest in quality pieces instead of stocking up on tons of cheaply made things. I especially need to do this with shoes, but I just get so excited and ridiculous about them.

I love the colours of this dress, they look great on you!
ReplyDeleteAnd I feel your pain on quality over quantity, it's just so hard on an extremely limited budget.
I decided something similar, especially about shoes last year. I'd bought some of the cutest mary janes at Payless, but they hurt my feet so much that they actually swelled! Now I save up for better pairs.
ReplyDeleteI love your dress! Longer hem lengths seem to be in for fall '10. Have you seen the Marc Jacobs dresses?
That dress is so cute! :)
ReplyDeleteI have such trouble choosing quality clothes over cheap clothes, because I just love to buy a lot of things. But quality is so important, especially with shoes! :/

your dress is amazing! glad you didn't shorten it, looks great as is
ReplyDeleteAh, I'm exactly like you, from hating a dress one year to loving it the other and from trying to stock up on expensive things but buying a heap of cheap things anyway :D
ReplyDeleteI love the dress! It's a little geeky and that suits you so well. Also, you're adorable in that last shot :D
i am definitely doing for quality over quantity at the moment. being so broke i want to save up for things i really, really love and will last me rather than squander it on rubbish!
ReplyDeletei agree that the dress is beyond perfect the way it is! the colors are fabulous and with your youth and chic haircut, you look far from frumpy! :)
ReplyDeletealso, i tend to go crazy over shoes also, except i buy more expensive shoes on sale and am always waiting for slashed prices lol.
xx
Oh My! You pretty young thing. Wonderful as always..
ReplyDeleteI really need to keep clothes instead of getting the dreaded scissors and *chop chop chop*
I get frustrated at helpless garments! Poor things...
That dress is adorable.
ReplyDeleteI love harlequin prints! This is lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys! ♥ And that's so true-- it's just so easy to give into buying lots of cheap things, but it doesn't really pay off in the end. And Kelley I have seen the MJ dresses, how PRETTY! I'm so paranoid about longer hemlines though because of my shortness, haha.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I forgot about this dress for so long! I have to learn to actually give things a chance before tossing them aside and changing bits and pieces.
I feel your pain on quality over quantity, it's just so hard on an extremely limited budget.
