Blue, blue, electric blue

Photobucket

I am in love with this wig, it gives me this crazy wonderful mermaid confidence!

I got it in the mail on Monday and immediately looked up Gala Darling's How to Rock a Wig and baby powdered the heck out of it to combat the shininess. It's not insanely amazing quality or anything, but it's good enough and I'm super happy with it! I've been dying to take pictures all week but it's been so rainy.

'60s girl scout dress, F21 shoes, Target socks, '60s flower brooch worn as a hair clip because apparently I have no hair accessories. Rose ring from New Orleans!

In college I used to change my hair constantly: I've been light pink, blue, turquoise, magenta, and then a light purple which somehow promptly faded to hot pink. After that, I shaved it all off to 1 1/4" and dyed it black. Then I started growing out the bob, which I've had for about a year and a half now (which is a long time for me!) I adore my current hair and am happy that I've found something I want to stick with, but it still gets boring. Thus, wigs!

And now I want MORE. A pink one, something short and white-blonde, a long blonde one for my Luna Lovegood costume... It's very neat how dramatically different you can look just by changing your hair-- although I used to have long red hair in this exact cut and length, so really it just brings back memories of hair constantly falling into my eyes!

A very midsummer madness.

Thrifted '90s dress, oxfords, & purse; Forever 21 headband

I lucked upon this '90s dress while thrifting one day and was so excited! It's exactly the right amount of faded and well-worn softness. I wish I had a closet full of them (or at least a few more).

It's been hard to concentrate on summer things lately because I've been a bit giddy thinking about how (kind of) close it is to fall. I can't wait for PUMPKINS and leaves and weather that makes me not hate leaving the house. And of course I miss layering! I have distant memories of cardigans and heavy vintage coats.

Summer makes me incredibly lazy and stir-crazy. I think I'll go make cookies.

She took me half the way there, now.

Dress: Target Red flats: Urban Outfitters Bracelet: vintage shop Necklace: Aroha Silhouettes Dog: Weetzie Bat!

This weekend, Jeremy and I decided to take Weetzie on her very first beach trip!

But then that kind of flew out the window when we saw how crowded it was (yuck). So instead we hopped on the ferry for an impromptu visit to Southport! We had a lovely little day trip, listening to the Beatles and eating ice cream and laughing at smiling-Weetzie. The beach will have to be saved for a weekday when there are less people around.

Don't tell anyone, but this was my first ferry ride and driving onto it kind of freaked me out! It was pretty neat though, despite the pound of salt that blew in my hair. I know my outfit is super boring so apologies for that!

We recently bought Weetzie a little booster-seat kind of thing for the car (shush!) because normally she hates riding in her travel crate and gets car sick a lot. It's adorable and straps her in safely while lifting her up a bit so she can look around! She liked barking at passing dogs in trucks.

Very pleased with the shop haul this week! Three '50s/'60s bags, three '80s bags and two '70s dresses that should be up within the next couple of days. Preview:

For those about to wrock

Photobucket

I was going to make a Potter-related post right before I went to the midnight show on Tuesday, but I've been a terrible blogger this week. I do want to share this with everyone though, despite being a bit late (it's still the release week though, so yay!)

Feel free to ignore if Harry Potter isn't your thing, but it's been incredibly important to my husband and I over the last few years-- so much so that we were married at a Harry Potter conference and tied the Unbreakable Vow into our own vows! We've met so many amazing friends through the community and Jeremy has discovered a surprise talent as a Seeker in Quidditch (go Werewolves!) It's the only sport I'll happily watch.

The Harry Potter fandom is all about letting go and celebrating happiness and having fun without worrying about what people think of you-- which is something that a lot of us forget to do normally, being busy with school and work and other random grown-up responsibilities. Listening to wrock is the best cure for a bad day.

If you're a nerd like me you've probably heard of Wizard Rock, but if not: they sing songs about Harry Potter and are an insanely talented bunch. Here's one of my favorite songs from my fave wrock band, The Remus Lupins:

And of course I can't write a wrock post without mentioning the founders, Harry and the Potters!

Actually I think I'll just let John Green explain wrock a lot better than I can:

Make sure to at least skip to 1:42-- that moment is beautiful and encapsulates everything I'm talking about!

Tea parties indeed.

4.July.2009
Dress: F21 Tights: Target Shoes: Vintage, Etsy Sparkly bracelet: Vintage shop Bat necklace: Ebay

Please do ignore the wrinkliness!

This dress is called the "Tea Party Dress," but the fourth of July was less of a tea party and more of a pizza and beer and Scrabble party with lots of Michael Jackson thrown in.

I've been kind of boring lately, doing internship things and working on the shop and gardening. So far the shop has been fun! I updated it Monday with all sorts of pretty new things. Not keeping things for myself is very hard.

One thing I am keeping for myself are these gorgeous little eel skin heels! My mom thrifted them ages ago and they were just sitting in her closet. They're perfect, except for being a 6.5.. oh dear. A little snug. If I can't swing it I'll have to put them in the shop, but eek! I love them so.

Yay! I've been scrambling around today trying to finish measuring and photographing everything, but it's been so fun! I still have lots of things waiting around to be listed, so hopefully I can make weekly updates. I hope you find something you like!

And finally.. the winner of the BB Dakota dress giveaway is Anja Louise Verdugo of Clever Nettle!! Congratulations! Thanks so much to everyone who entered and made my very first giveaway a success, it made me so happy! At some point I'm going to make sure to do an international giveaway so everyone can have fun.

I'll go away now and stop abusing exclamation points.
