Holy smokes, it's almost 2010!
As far as holidays go, new year's eve has never been a big deal to me until fairly recently. Last year I was determined to get tons of things done in 2009 and that was reflected by my long list of goals. Miraculously, I accomplished a good chunk of them! (Among those that failed were doing yoga three times a week, taking vitamins everyday and shooting tons of video.)
Overall, 2009 was a less-than-stellar year for me both personally and creatively, but there were still bits of awesome sprinkled throughout: like our Epic Road Trip to New Orleans and (of course!) my first blog post!

Here's the thing about New Year's Eve: resolutions have a bad rep. Tons of people don't even bother because they already have a sense of failure floating over their heads. But no, this is terrible! Remember that nothing at all is wrong with setting goals for the upcoming year. You should always have goals of varying degrees--the new year is just a fresh start so that you can say "I've been doing ____ since ____." (The start of each month is also a good time for this, so keep that in mind if you also fall off the yoga wagon!)
For 2010 I have lofty, lofty goals. I love lofty goals. I also love the word lofty, although I don't mean it in a negative way, just a sort of floaty optimism. The blog and shop fell way behind when I started working, but this will be remedied! I have quite a few posts already planned, will be updating the shop fairly regularly, and even have a couple of giveaways coming up! Yay.

And before I go, I must mention that the shop is having a massive 20% off sale until the end of January!!
I hope the new decade is wonderful and sparkly and surprising for you all. ♥

But anyway, back to resolutions-- please don't refuse to create goals for yourself for fear of not accomplishing them. You will most likely get them done, even if they seem a bit out of reach at the moment. And I just thought I'd share since that's my favorite part of the new year. :)

love your green skirt! I like your point that refusing to make resolutions is negative in itself, you're right!
ReplyDeleteIs that black nail-polish?! If so, congratulations on the bold choice. Strong colors are courageous and fun. The sparkly tights are a nice touch, too.
ReplyDeleteLovely outfit and lovely post! Also sparkles yay :D
ReplyDeleteI make resolutions throughout the year, rather than on NYE because I don't ever feel a sense of change around this time of year & actually why only promise to make your life & lifestyle better at the end of the year?
Also again: sparkly thigh highs = ENVY! & that colour of your skirt is so so amazing!
Yay for more blogging in 2010, whenever I see one of your posts in my reader, it makes me happy.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
xx
happy new year! i love the colour of that skirt.
ReplyDeleteyou're gorgeous! that skirt looks lovely on you, especially the bright color.
ReplyDeletehappy new year :)
I love the tights and the skirt! The color is wonderful. Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteOoh, loving those sparkly socks! I didn't even know sparkly socks existed; thank you, Sock Dreams (and you, Pansy, for showcasing them!)
ReplyDeleteI didn't write down my resolutions for this year or anything but I made mental notes, does that count? Probably not, because I'll most likely forget what they were as the year drags on. I know I want to be more vegetarian, like eat less meat, don't buy meat, pack a lunch, etc. Y'know, little baby vegetarian steps.
Happy New Year!
Jayne: Thanks! Yeah I know everyone has their own way of doing things like that, but I just love having a fresh start so I can make lots of goals. It comes from my obsessive list-making habit.
ReplyDeleteShybiker: It's actually OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark with a layer of silver glitter, but I put it on a bit too thick to keep the purple color. I love dark colors, though!
Eline: Thank you! Yay sparkles. ^.^ I'm so easy to please; I love shiny things. I definitely get the thing about making goals throughout the year-- I do that too, I always add to my list. I just love NYE because I'm such a nerd for organization and the new year gives all kinds of excuses for that!
Mademoiselle Robot: Yay!! I'm so glad, thank you lady! :)
Helen: I'm a sucker for turquoise-y things!
Jen: Oh gosh, thank you so much! ♥
Amelia: Aw thanks! That skirt always makes me feel happy when I wear it. :)
Diane: Sparkly socks are IMPORTANT! They're quite tricky too-- I don't think they photograph very well but I love how they look in person. I love Sock Dreams so much.
Mental notes definitely count! I just have to write mine down because I forget everything that isn't written down (that's actually not too much of an exaggeration). I'm doing the little baby vegetarian steps too! We can be partners. :) :)
I love the tights! I say we bring back the sparkly any time :)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Hope! Your blog was such a treat in 2009, here's to 2010 :)
love this it's so funky :)
ReplyDeleteNew Year's Resovolution...I like that , you keep saying it and thinking it- it keeps me optimistic
