Feel free to ignore if Harry Potter isn't your thing, but it's been incredibly important to my husband and I over the last few years-- so much so that we were married at a Harry Potter conference and tied the Unbreakable Vow into our own vows! We've met so many amazing friends through the community and Jeremy has discovered a surprise talent as a Seeker in Quidditch (go Werewolves!) It's the only sport I'll happily watch.
The Harry Potter fandom is all about letting go and celebrating happiness and having fun without worrying about what people think of you-- which is something that a lot of us forget to do normally, being busy with school and work and other random grown-up responsibilities. Listening to wrock is the best cure for a bad day.
If you're a nerd like me you've probably heard of Wizard Rock, but if not: they sing songs about Harry Potter and are an insanely talented bunch. Here's one of my favorite songs from my fave wrock band, The Remus Lupins:
Actually I think I'll just let John Green explain wrock a lot better than I can:
Make sure to at least skip to 1:42-- that moment is beautiful and encapsulates everything I'm talking about!

I debated about making a Harry Potter post, haha! But I think yours is just charming :D I think it's so sweet that you had a bit of Harry Potter at your wedding! I went to see it yesterday and ah, it didn't disappoint <3! And uh oh, do you fancy yourself a Slytherin!? Haha xD
ReplyDeleteMars: Awww we're not all evil! ♥ And yay thanks! I started not to because I wasn't sure how many HP fans are around here, but then I couldn't help myself. And yeah we're pretty geektastic about things.. it was the only way we could imagine our wedding, really!
ReplyDeleteHi. I am not sure how I found your blog, but I have been checking in from time to time, lurking like a creep, but now I must comment on this post because, are you kidding me, how awesome that you had the unbreakable vow in your wedding ceremony!
ReplyDeleteAnd seeing Harry and the Potters with Draco and the Malfoys was one of my most favorite concert experiences. Geeking out is just so much fun.
The way you talk about your feelings r.e. Harry Potter sounds like me when I talk about Star Trek. Although I'm not as extreme a fan as many Trekkies/ers (I've never even attended a convention, gasp!), it just makes me really happy. I'm trying to convince my husband that we should renew our vows in some cheesy Star Trek-related way when our 10-year anniversary arrives next year. So the point is that I'm excited for you, because I remember how utterly giddy I was when the Star Trek movie finally came out. I got all choked-up when I was in the theatre and it finally started. So yeah... geeks of all fandom varieties, unite! I hope the latest film brought you all the joy you hoped for!
ReplyDeleteomg the unbreakable vow thing is great!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, you got married at an HP conference? That's so cool! And your wand is rad. :P
ReplyDeleteI want to see the movie so bad >.< And me and my husband are in serious need of a date night anyhow...
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! The Remus Lupins, this is AMAZING! I have been onsessed with Hp since I was about 8, when the first movie came out. Although I did think all the extra bits in the new film were a little odd, esp. when Dumbledore was like "You should shave".

I guess I'm not a Harry Potter fan (except for the part in one of the movies where Jarvis Cocker made an appearance!) . . I just wanted to say that I love your David Bowie quote to pieces.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm excited to hear about your Wilmington adventure!!
ReplyDeleteroboticaquatic: Ahaha that's awesome, hello!! And thank you! :D HatP and DatM really do get better every time I see them! Between those two, The Remus Lupins, and the Parselmouths I just love wrock a ridiculous amount. Geeking out is the BEST because you can just flail around without having to worry about people making fun of you for flailing around!
ReplyDeleteStephanie N: Oh gosh, you completely understand where I'm coming from! Fandom can just make you so happy and bring great things when it's done right. Of course there are always the crazies and the people that want to ruin it for everyone, but if you ignore that and do your own thing it can be so amazing. ♥
Jayne: Thank you!! We were married by one of our close friends and she had the Elder Wand and everything. ♥
Isabel: Ahaha yes and thank you! :D It was ridiculously fun. And I made that wand! I drew the snake pattern and my dad carved it for me. ^.^
Aya: Aww it really was great! My husband and I have a date night too-- we HAVE to or we'll never get out of the house!
The Magic Doll: That's so awesome!! :D Yeah there were lots of changes, but I have to regard the books and movies as two very separate things or it'll drive me mad! Especially with how weird and non-Dumbledorey Michael Gambon can be at times.
Rhiannon: Oooh yes, he was part of The Weird Sisters!! I love that song. And awww, that is one of my favorite quotes of his! ♥ ♥
I love this post! I am a total Potter geek and had not seen all of this fantastic stuff. I even have a Weird Sisters tshirt.
