Birthdays and '50s dresses.

Dress: Vintage '50s, Etsy
Cardigan: Thrifted
Tights: Target (of course)
Boots: Thrifted

I feel like I've been away forever!

With schoolwork, a visit from my parents, and a little birthday party Saturday I had a very busy week/weekend. Sunday I was going to make an Easter post (I have pink bunny ears and everything!) but we kind of just lounged around and ate candy instead. Yesterday was my actual birthday and I had the loveliest day; my brother-in-law and future sister-in-law bought me Scrabble (which I've been wanting since Christmas!) so I made my husband play with me a billion times. This was a large chunk of our day:

I'm such a nerd. And then we cooked dinner and had it out on the back porch using our new little cafe set! So yes, that's my kind of birthday.

Every time I wear this dress I tend to pair it with boots, which isn't the best idea since ankle boots combined with the dress length do absolutely nothing for my shortness and make my legs look all stubby. But I can't help it! This is the only '50s dress I have and it makes me feel weird to wear it in a dressed-up way, I don't know what that's about. I'm much more of a mini-dress person. But this one really is a great little summer dress, so I can put aside my '50s weirdness for that I suppose.

  5. That dress is very pretty.
And is that the fancy smancy Scrabble that rotates? My fiance really wants one, but they are $50 or more. Maybe I'll just find a lazy susan at a thrift store and hot glue our board to it...

  8. Thank you very much everyone!! :D And a big welcome to the new people! ♥

dearilou: Yes! I didn't have a preference but they said lots of research was involved and this was determined as the best one. It IS rather awesome- the whole thing folds up into a little case with a handle! I'm with you though, if I already had a board a lazy susan would totally work, and you could have it kind of permanently set up on a table somewhere..

Scrabble is pretty awesome, too. My boyfriend and I play all the time. Have you seen Word Wars? It's a documentary about Scrabble.

  13. you know, though, the effect of the boots and dress together makes me think of all the pictures in the original alice in wonderland/through the looking-glass books. alice is also quite short, and wears little boots with her flouncy dress.
i can't think of anyone better to resemble, can you?
happy birthday, you and i are two days apart, i think.
