Slouchy suede ankle boots, vintage Selby heels, '80s or '90s ankle booties
Last week we visited our parents for the weekend and I went to my favorite thrift shop in the WORLD. It’s in a tiny town near my (also tiny) hometown and because it’s frequented mainly by old people it is stocked with overlooked vintage goodness. There are always racks of vintage nightgowns, rows of shoes, big amazing heavy coats.. I always come out with tons of things, and it’s so cheap! I got those shoes and the little bag for about five dollars. I think the brown ones are my new favorite everyday shoes, they are so comfortable.
Seriously, some of my favorite things are from this place and I am indebted to it forever. My mom and I made friends with the owner (Ruth!) who loveloves vintage but laments the fact that no one ever wants any of it, so I volunteered to take it all, thank you very much! We worked out an arrangement so that she holds it for me and my mom picks it up, but unfortunately this was our first trip back in months so she didn’t have anything saved. It’s such a shame that I live so far away now… My red leather/rabbit fur coat and suede/fox fur coat were both found there for only a few dollars each! It’s the only thing I miss about living in a town that tiny.
That place makes me want to open a vintage Etsy shop so much, if for no other reason than to snag all of that loveliness and not feel guilty about it. I always feel so awful when I find something vintage and it isn’t in my size—there was a pair of ‘60s tri-color pumps just sitting on the shelf next to the others, but they were about an 8 or 8 1/2. God knows why I didn’t just buy them anyway, but now they’re haunting me and I feel ridiculous for not spending the extra $1.50! I could have given them away. What on earth was that about.

ReplyDeleteThose blue heels and that bag--I want, I want!
I feel the same about certain pieces I find. But ultimately I don't think I could maintain a shop!
Thanks! :D
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way, I'm afraid I would be way too lazy and things would fall behind, but it's so tempting not to pass things up!
those shoes are simply amazing
ReplyDeletesame for that BAG!!! the glass zebra eye is too cool
great blog,dahhling!
Small town op shops are the best! I'm long over due for a op shop inspired road trip - there is an awesome place about an hour for me that sounds a lot like your shop - overlooked vintage galore - and will let you fill a plastic bag for $5. It's amazing how much you can stuff into a shopping bag!
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and I love it. Your outfits and haircut are just adorable!
clairegrenade - thank you so much! :D :D
ReplyDeleteSkgillespie - Aw thank you!! And oh man, I long to do a huge roadtrip with a big map of tiny thrift shops. This shop has bag sales every now and then too which is always absolutely AMAZING! They give out garbage bags and I just go nuts and grab everything, haha.
Love how all the colors go well with each other and I love those booties! I need need need some now.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I love your hair cut.
